NEW ZEALAND NATIONALS - FIRST ON NEW FOIL

Just over 2 years ago, New Zealand was the first country to hold a WASZP

Nationals. Now on the 22nd - 24th of March New Zealand will be the first

nation to hold a WASZP nationals on the new, larger foil. Murrays Bay

Sailing Club in Auckland is hosting The 2019 Live Sail Die NZL WASZP

Nationals. This puts the racing area within the racing area of the 36th

America's Cup where much larger foiling monohulls will battle it out in 2 years.

Following on from the Australian WASZP nationals and WASZP Games, which 11

boats from New Zealand were shipped over for, there is increased momentum in

the class. Over 30 WASZPs are expected including Bruce Curson who came 4th

at both events in Perth, Oscar Rorvik who came 6th at the Australian

Nationals and Alex Mitchel-Baker who was runner up in the Slalom. Sailors

are travelling domestically from as far South as Christchurch and as far

north as The Bay of Islands. In addition to those sailing for New Zealand,

there are also sailors representing Australia, Chile and Australia.

Thanks to the support from Live Sail Die there will be professional

extensive media coverage of the event. In keeping with the Waszp mentality

we hope that everyone learns a lot over the 3 days of racing. The bar will

be open after racing where everyone is welcome to stay on and enjoy the

social side of sailing. There are possibly still some boats available for

charter so get in touch ASAP if you want to come over and compete.
